BIOGRAPHY

"Follow what you love and do it for the rest of your life… do what you love each day as if it's your last."

When Ascot Royals singer Jimmy Chauveau and his brother and bandmate Ben talk about those words from their dying aunt, it's clear they've decided she's given them a credo to live by.

Why is it that when we stare death in the eye, it reminds us to live life to the fullest?

I've interviewed a lot of bands, but when guitarist Tal Vaisman started to casually tell me his reality, I was wide eyed. He told me about being a combat soldier in Gaza, how he lost his buddy in the absurdity of war, realizing that both sides are losing people they love, and how he would refuse to be a reason for that.

"Neither to my mother, or my ‘enemy's' mother" - Tal Vaisman

Tal left Israel, the Chauveau brothers left England. The band formed in Canada.

Bassist Scott Page and drummer Sam Stark, both born in Canada, speak about a pivotal band meeting as if their lives were hanging in the balance one fateful night. "All of our equipment got stolen! Guitars, amps, everything!" Scott recounts. "We were basically contemplating if that was the end of the road. But this band is our passion, and we all saw eye to eye on that, and always will."

Sam echoes that sense of passion that the Ascot Royals have always had. "Creating and sharing music with the message of living life to the fullest is very important to me. I live for the moment, for the night, and I love being free spirited."

The music reflects the awareness of living in those moments, but also a sense of forging ahead and looking to the future.

Lead off single "Best is Yet to Come" is a reminder that when you're going through hell, just keep going. This song makes me wanna take a deep breath and just look around…maybe everything's gonna be okay.

The Ascot Royals put into songs the notion that with everyday life comes everyday struggle, and rising to that occasion may be the essence of life itself.
