The story behind Fernando Varela begins and ends with a voice. A voice that other artists and the press are constantly comparing to some of the world's greatest. Fernando's powerful voice tells the tale of a gifted tenor whose spirit and determination has truly defied the odds.
Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, Fernando moved to Orlando at the age of eight, and while he always loved music, it was not until he was seventeen that he began to discover the impressive talent he had within him. With no formal training but with a love for music, Fernando sang for a university music panel to start his journey. Possibility was absent when Fernando was confronted with a barrier of doubt and uncertainty from the faculty he sang for. His audition performance resulted in the panel of professors' laughing aloud and telling Fernando, "Don't quit your day job - music is just not for you."
After an intense time of reflection, Fernando chose not to give up on his passion to express music to others and set about turning doubt and disbelief from others into a fierce drive to succeed. He quit his day job at a successful financial firm and set out to achieve his dream. With more than a decade of hard work and dedication, he transformed into one of the most captivating tenors in the world today.
To learn with the best, Fernando sought out and trained with some of opera's most renowned icons. His talent and drive was further recognized by Grammy Award-Winning producer David Foster [Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Andrea Bocelli, Josh Groban> who asked Fernando to tour around the world with him - performing along side legendary superstars including Lionel Richie, Neil Diamond, Seal, Babyface, Peter Cetera, Jewel, and Chaka Kahn. Fernando then went on to headline his own fifty date tour across North America in 2014 and in 2016 he performed to over 400,000 people on the European 'Night of the Proms' tour accompanied by a 60 piece orchestra.
Recently, Fernando was signed by the world's most prestigious classical record label, Deutsche Grammophon (a Universal Music Group company) and will release his new album in early 2017. "Vivere" was recorded at the iconic Abbey Road Recording Studio in London and was produced by world renowned producers Patrick Hamilton [Katherine Jenkins, Alfie Boe, David Garrett> and Chris Craker [Hans Zimmer>. Vivere is a classical pop crossover album that perfectly showcases Fernando's infectious optimism and soaring vocals.
