Rendez Vous Champlain 400th Anniversary Festival

In 2015, the Town of Penetanguishene and the governments of Ontario and Quebec needed to develop a three-day event to mark the 400th Anniversary of the landing of Samuel Champlain, the first French explorer to visit Ontario.

WHAT WE DID

  • Planned and budgeted for a festival site on Penetanguishene’s waterfront
  • Executed infrastructure development, event programming and day-of event management
  • Incorporated the opening of a new park and the unveiling of a new statue by Ontario`s Premier Kathleen Wynne and the French Ambassador to Canada Nicolas Chapuis into the event
  • Programmed four Francophone acts representing four different regions of Canada with funding from the Government of Quebec
  • Programmed an all-star concert funded by the Town of Penetanguishene and the Government of Ontario that featured a moving finale that paired Roch Voisine with the Wendat people
  • THE RESULT

After four months of planning with the Town of Penetanguishene and the Ontario and Quebec governments, TFA executed an event that realized the team’s shared vision. All event infrastructure needs were identified, planned and executed resulting in a safe and seamless-running festival site. TFA acted as the coordinating producer and onsite event management team, ensuring that all artist logistics, technical and event operations — from rider fulfillment to payment and deposits to performers and suppliers — went off without a hitch. The result was a well-attended festival that expertly reflected Francophone musical culture and marked the historical significance of the weekend.
